HOW TO CHOOSE A GOOD SKATE BOARD

Here is a relative information about skateboarding. It's a video seen at Inquirer sports. It's Freddy Gonzalez, president of Five-O Skate Shop who is sharing the information.

He advises that beginners should not spend so much at first so they don’t regret as much in the end. Further, it is recommended that beginners buy a complete set if he wants to start skating, and as he gets better, upgrade into better products. The rationale is that if he finds out that it’s not the right sport for him, at least he didn’t spend that much. The cheapest yet complete skateboard set costs between P3,000 to P4,000 but the average price range is around P5,000.

Gonzalez shares a few pointers in choosing the right board.

"Know what size fits you. For those with smaller foot size, choose a smaller board that measures about 7.5 inches."

According to him, a narrow board is a good choice if the one is more into mastering flips and technical tricks. For riding rails and ramps, a wider board is more ideal.

"Check whether the board is concave enough. It is easier to flip if the board is concave enough."

"Check whether the “pop” of the board is stiff enough. A good pop would depend if the board is stiff enough. The stiffer a board is, the better it is to do ollies and flips. To check, try giving the tail end of the board a good downward kick."

According to Gonzalez, board manufacturers commonly used Canadian maple in crafting the board because of its stiffness and flexibility. But others tried using bamboo for the board because it is easier to source.

“The professionals don’t have a say on the art. Currently, companies released designs by series,” said Gonzalez.

Professional skaters, meanwhile, may opt for a board made from carbon-composite materials, which can withstand a lot of abuse.

Professional skaters who would want their board assembled spend no less than P10,000, Gonzalez said.

Hey dudes, have you heard about the latest from MTV? It's MTV Emerge, the newest platform which is actually created for unsigned music talents in the Philippines. I know most of you are into music and bands as I have been a witness to the many different activities you have here in CDO. Well, at MTV Emerge, unsigned music talents can showcase their work and be given an opportunity to win a one-year recording contract with Jeepney Music, which was founded by Apl.de.Ap of The Black Eyed Peas. With MTV, Jeepney Music, and Department of Tourism collaboration, the aim is to find the hottest unsigned music talent from all genres of music (Indie, rock, hip-hop, R&B, metal, solo artists, DJs, etc). I bet you like that huh? I bet some of you would even want to join...

Anyway, all the participants should register and upload their profiles, photos and original music on the site of MTV Emerge , after that, their entries will go through a public voting process. And now is Manny Pacquiao's turn..... This Filipino ring icon is the latest boxer to make it to the list of professional boxers to be featured in the cover of this well-respected magazine... And also Manny Pacquiao is the second non-heavyweight fighter to do so. He is also the second Filipino to grace Time’s cover after the late former President Corazon Aquino, who was named the magazine’s "Woman of the Year" in 1986.

In its latest Asia edition issue, Time pays tribute to PACMAN in a story titled “The Meaning of Manny,” which branded the Filipino spitfire as “the latest savior of boxing.” The story delves into Pacquiao’s stature as the Philippines’ favorite son, his humble beginnings, recent ring accomplishments, and many others. Previously, TIME also included PACMAN in its list of 100 most influential people in the world, with former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis providing a brief write-up on him.

I was at PARASAT yesterday and while I was paying at the cashier's for my cable subscription, I was facing the poster of the Pacquiao versus Cotto Boxing Match that is encouraging people to pay P 800.00 added fee should you want to watch it on pay per view.

The fight is going to be at the MGM Grand Las Vegas, on November 14. So since not all of us can go there, you can have it at P 800.00 at payperview...

Lili sings The Climb with Schoolmates during LSC Fun Day..

Our little bundle is no longer a baby. Last October 27, 2009 during their school's Fun Day, she and 5 other kids were tasked to sing The Climb on stage. That's actually her first performance with a different crowd.

The Cagayan de Oro Bloggers (CDO Bloggers) group is set to play host to the Mindanao Bloggers Summit 3, which will be held on October 24, 2009. With the theme, “Mindanao: Bag-Uhon Ang Panan-aw,” the MBS 3 aims to uphold the beauty and strength of the island and to expunge the negative notions the world has about it.

Casino Games: A Sports Game?

Skaters who I spoke with have so much to tell me about skateboarding. And they would seriously talk about the sport so passionately that sometimes, such passion for skateboarding seems too much for me to understand. I mean, hey, it's quite a dangerous sport.. But one particular sports guy, who we shall hide by the name of Chuck, has another passion. It seems to me that his heart is always set for the best online casino as he loves casino games very much. I met him a few years back in Cebu. We were watching a show at the Casino Filipino while he and his friends just finished rounds from the slot machines.. And by golly, he even likes online slot machines too...

Can't blame him. He must be very good because he tells me now that he has not really lost a lot. Hmmm.. I thought he was just being nice to himself by declaring that. But, true, he has not lost much, because he doesn't play much. He simply plays when he has a chance, and mostly of these times, according to him, he wins.

He must be very lucky.. But he tells us that it isn't him that's lucky. He says that it is the platform that he uses when he plays... Well, good for him.. At least it's not an addiction that he cannot control...

Anyway, I asked him whether he considers Casino Games as a Sports Game, and his answer is simple. He siad, "YES! Because like all sports, win or lose, you just have to take it as a game or lose your cool..".

FROM MY KITCHEN: DINUGUAN

Pinoys are known for the exotic food that we serve whenever we have special gatherings and even during ordinary meals..

Below is so far the best recipe of Dinuguan I have tasted... I think I should marry a Kapampangan for this.. hahaha...

Dinuguan (Blood Stew) Pampanga Style

Ingredients:
3 lbs. pork shoulder or butt roast, diced
1 pc pork heart, boiled then diced
1 lb. beef tripe, cooked and diced
100 gms. pork liver, diced 1 cup vinegar
2 tbsps cooking oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 onion, minced
2 cups broth
1-1/2 cups pig or cow blood
4 pcs. long green hot pepper
salt & pepper
(extra) green chili

Direction:
A good size sautee pan.
garlic and onion in cooking oil. add diced pork, heart, and tripe.
bring to a boil and simmer until tender. then
when meat is tender, add vinegar, broth, and hot peppers and bring to a boil. add salt and pepper to taste.
add pork blood stirring continuously until thick. Simmer for 5 minutes. adjust seasonings.


Anyway, here is how we usually do it...A family Recipe...and we call it here in Cagayan de Oro and Northern Mindanao as  SAMPAYNA

Ingredients:

1 cup cut pork’s small intestines,(cleaned, boiled and cut crosswise, 1 cm. Lengths)
1 cup cut pork’s lung, (cleaned, boiled and cut into small cubes)
2 tablespoons cooking fat
1 teaspoon crushed garlic
2 teaspoons sliced onion
1 teaspoons sliced ginger
2 tablespoons cubed green and red bell peppers
1/2 cup cut pork liver, (cubes)
vinegar mixed with pork’s blood (with lemon grass dipped in it)
2-1/2 teaspoons salt



How to make sampayna:

• In a carajay, place all the intestines, liver, lungs and all other internal organs that may be used, over low heat until they produce oil and eventually cooked and becomes a little crispy...cool and cut into desired sizes.. set aside
  
•  In a large sauce pan, saute garlic, bell pepper, ginger and onions add internal organs..
  
• Add well-mixed vinegar-blood mixture, including the dipped lemon grass and bring to a boil without stirring for about 15 minutes. Add salt, stir. Cook 5 minutes longer. Remove lemon grass... 
• Serve hot. Six servings.

HELP IN ANYWAY...

This is a repost from Sana's blog.. I know Queenie personally because she is my sister's friend. What they went through is not fair. I am reposting this in the hope that some US readers of this post can help them, in anyway...

The incident happened a long time ago--- May 25, 2006 but until now, the Velasco family still needs help to clear out their names. Right now they can't find decent jobs because of the case they were NEVER convicted with prior to the pediatrician's findings. Allan and Queenie Velasco were arrested and charged with child neglect for not seeking immediate attention for their child's minor injury. Queenie was arrested at the hospital where they took Carmela, their child, and Allan was dragged out of their Jersey City home with the full view of the neighbors - dragged out and cuffed without a chance to wear shoes or jacket, and wasn't given a chance to get his cellphone or wallet.
