Remembering...

Last January 25, 2012 was the 40th day for all TS Sendong victims and survivors. A grand gathering was held at the Rodelsa Circle in the evening, where a mass and a candle lighting ceremony was held before a concert. After TS Sendong hit, there was also a concert held as a fundraising to help the victims. Performers did their numbers for free, while organizers collected money from the audience. After that, said money were used to buy food items and other relief goods, then they were distributed. Here are a few photos courtesy of some friends of the performers.

That's Boyet Vasquez and his guitar. While this below is a band which I forgot the name. What a talent CDO has.
There were other bands that performed and they came full force, complete with their equipment and instruments, even with their bad monkey overdrive guitar effects. Well, on the 40th day commemoration, said bands performed again, but the attendees were mostly their for remembering.. Candle lighting took place and a huge floater was also filled with lighted candles as it went floating Cagayan River.. and looking through photos of Froilan Gallardo and Enrico Lluch at FB, I saw that some candles formed HEAL CDO...

While in Taguanao, earlier in the day, another group have offered prayers, a priest's blessing and some candles floating too..
In Calacala, that part of the city that was gravely washed out, people went there with the same actions and intentions..

New Sight Down River...

First of all, thanks to Irene Aserios for inviting us to join this water rafting activity sponsored by The Great White water rafting company...
These are just some images of the Cagayan River when we went rafting yesterday morning...
TS Sendong has washed out concrete dike and flooring at the starting point...

More boulders as we went along. They are boulders that fell from above the mountains and hills...
Because openings were created naturally, water from within the ground have provided a small waterfall where we bathed..
The river is actually wider now, but we were told that the rapids course has changed...even the guides are still in the process of getting to know each rapid.. But I must tell you that the basic course is much more fun now compared with how it was back then.. Really loved our rafting adventure. Thanks again..

Picking Up the Pieces

After TS Sendong, the tourism industry here in Cagayan de Oro find it quite difficult to stand up. But in order to pick up the pieces, tour operators and even those who are involved in flower delivery, have decided to do something otherwise tourism will die, making it difficult for tourism to survive after the storm. Having tried water rafting again, after TS Sendong happened, I know that eventually, more and more people will visit Cagayan de Oro again, and that will signal a new beginning for the city. Hopefully soon, everything will be going smoothly like before.

I liken this to the very structure that helps Bukidnon residents  get across the river. The river is actually the boundary between Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro City.

Students, if their parents decide to send them to Bukidnon, would have to walk longer, compared to going to school in Cagayan de Oro, which is quite shorter in walking distance. The structure had been completely washed out, but during our rafting yesterday, it had been fixed, or a new structure was built.

Water Rafting after TS Sendong

We went water rafting yesterday. It was a treat from the Great White company. My sister and I, along with the UST teacher and other members of the CDO Bloggers Inc. We had fun going there and we had fun going through fifteen rapids.
But when we got to see the area from the time we stepped on the point of beginning down to the end point down river, especially when we reached where Cabula River Grille used to be, we saw the devastation brought about by TS Sendong. There are no more backyard cabanas, not even the swimming pool. The back hoe has been broken and parts have been spread all around the place.. All throughout the route, we saw uprooted trees, and many other signs that TS Sendong snatched the river's former beauty. But then, it has given it a different kind of power to draw attention still.
