YUMMY SUNDAY: HALO HALO

1 leaps and a turtle dive

Online Food Market

0 leaps and a turtle dive
My student, Jamillah, brought me a treat made of coconut milk and cornflour. It looks weird at first but once you taste it, it is definitely YUMMY. I asked her how it is prepared and she said it is simple. But preparing it goes with tradition and culture. The food she gave me can only be prepared by a "Muslim" (a person in the practise of the Islamic faith). Well, that was three years ago. Jamillah is now in the US, working as a Nurse. Hmm.. Am I that old? hehehe... Never mind...
Anyway, she was chatting with me the other night and she said she is about to prepare the foodie she gave me years ago, and that she just came from an Asian Store to purchase the ingredients. Then our chat centered on the foodies available in the store. And I am so amazed because lots and lots of stores have opened to help the cultural minorities in the area find the food they want to prepare and eat. Aside from the sores that are sprouting, it is already easier to find said stores because they can be found with just a click.
Do you know that you can find a large selection of ethnic food products online? Yup, that is correct. There are lots of online foods available. There are over 4500 various ethnic food products and it is definitely growing everyday. What I specifically like is the fact that wherever in the United States, there is a flat rate for shipping and that is in the amount of $4.99 only. Amazing huh? What's more, it carries food from all over the world. You can get Asia, Indian, European, Middle Eastern, South American foods and have them delivered at your doorsteps. Plus, if you are simply trying out other country cuisines, there are lists of over 4000 recipes for various food dishes. Wow.. Thinking about that just make my mouth water. Specially because I just came from practice and I am oh so hungry... By far, you can consider it the largest ethnic super market---online. Now if there are foods that you wish to get but could not get them mainly because you do not know where, the think again. Because www.efooddepot.com offers hard to find food products such as, snacks, sauces, spices, cooking mixes, sweets, cookies, beverages, and many others...

Goodbye Yenyen...

0 leaps and a turtle dive
Yenyen said goodbye tonight. As expected, I knew she was to leave. I could not tell her not to, after all, we are all entitled to find our happiness, our future. She just has to go... And I gave her my blessing. I hope she finds what she is looking for in life. I hope she will be happy.

She too is a good employee. I am amazed at how much she has to put up with being the eldest of her siblings and having a sick father to care for.

Am pretty sure Baby Zar will miss her.

BALUT & PENOY

3 leaps and a turtle dive

What every man or woman SHOULD EAT... hahaha, ...WHEN STRENGTH IS NEEDED, if you know what I mean... happy eating...

The two eggs resembling boiled eggs, that's what is called "PENOY"...

The one with the chick membrane, that is what we call "BALUT". To some people, the latter may look yucky with the embryo in it, but once you get the hang of it, you will love it...

Both are best eaten with vinegar and salt.

Holy Week Heat...

0 leaps and a turtle dive
It's Tuesday on a Holy Week... The weather is not so good. The heat is overwhelming.. Since yesterday we felt the surging heat eating up our skin like it's going to burn it, even if it was as early as 8 in the morning yet...

What a very HOT day it was... and now again.

It seems that the weather is also into the LENTEN mood...

With this heat, I just want to stay at home and have the running water of the shower pour all over me... UGH!!!

But I think after the Holy Week everything will be okay then....

THE LITTLE BLACK BOY

0 leaps and a turtle dive
Sharing with you something nice and inspiring:

THE LITTLE BLACK BOY
My mother bore me in the southern wild,
And I am black, but O my soul is white!
White as an angel is the English child,
But I am black, as if bereaved of light.
My mother taught me underneath a tree,
And, sitting down before the heat of day,
She took me on her lap and kissed me,
And, pointing to the East, began to say:
'Look on the rising sun: there God does live,
And gives His light, and gives His heat away,
And flowers and trees and beasts and men receive
Comfort in morning, joy in the noonday.
'And we are put on earth a little space,
That we may learn to bear the beams of love;
And these black bodies and this sunburnt face
Are but a cloud, and like a shady grove.
'For, when our souls have learned the heat to bear,
The cloud will vanish, we shall hear His voice,
Saying, "Come out from the grove, my love and care,
And round my golden tent like lambs rejoice."'
Thus did my mother say, and kissed me,
And thus I say to little English boy.
When I from black, and he from white cloud free,
And round the tent of God like lambs we joy,
I'll shade him from the heat till he can bear
To lean in joy upon our Father's knee;
And then I'll stand and stroke his silver hair,
And be like him, and he will then love me.

BAKUGAN CRAZE

0 leaps and a turtle dive

(Click Photo To Enlarge or see more of the pics)

BAKUGAN is a movie my students are crazy about. They would sometimes hate our tutorial sessions because they would miss their favorite show, Bakugan. Hehehe...of course, me and their mother would explain the importance of the tutorial lessons parallel to missing the show they like so much...

Last week, the mother was so busy packing presents for their cousins and guess what she was packing? Bakugan toys...hehehe...seems like every kid is crazed with this Bakugan mania...it seems that Santa too would be busy giving out Bakugan toys and cards...hahahaha...

NEVER SAW BLUE LIKE THAT...

0 leaps and a turtle dive
Today we took a walk up the street,
We picked a flower and climbed a hill above the lake
Secret thoughts, you said aloud,
We watched the faces in the clouds
Until the clouds have blown away
Were we ever somewhere else you know
It's hard to say

I never saw a blue like that before
Across the sky, around the world
You're giving me all you have and more
No one else has ever shown me how
To see the world the way I see it now, oh I
I never saw a blue like that

I can't believe
A month ago I was alone
I didn't know you, I've never seen you, or heard your name
And even now, I'm so amazed it's like a dream
It's like a rainbow, it's like the rain
Some things are the way they are and words just can't explain

I never saw a blue like that before
Across the sky, around the world
You're giving me all you have and more
No one else has ever shown me how
To see the world the way I see it now, oh I
I never saw a blue like that before

It feels like now, it feels always,
And it feels like coming home

I never saw a blue like that before
Across the sky, around the world
You're giving me all you have and more
No one else has ever shown me how
To see the world the way I see it now, oh I
I never saw a blue like that before

Oh, oh I, I never saw blue like that
